Calls for Papers, Proposals and Conferences
The University of Manitoba Philosophy Students Association is pleased to announce it is hosting a student conference January 17th to 18th, 2026. The conference is open to undergraduate and graduate students in North America. Our central theme of the conference is philosophical research in the areas of artificial intelligence and technology.
It brings us great pleasure to announce our keynote speakers, Karina Vold (University of Toronto) and Duncan MacIntosh (Dalhousie University). More details about their talks will be made available closer to the conference date.
If you are a student interested in presenting, we welcome you to submit an extended abstract (500 – 700 words) that:
• Gives a clear idea of the central theses you defend.
• An indication of how you argue for these claims.
• 3-5 keywords.
• An indicative bibliography of 3-6 items.
Ideally, the final iteration of your paper should be no more than 4000 words (excluding notes), presentable in, at most, 20 minutes to allow for commentary and discussion, and prepared for anonymous review. Presenters are encouraged to provide handouts and/or visual presentations. We also encourage that you notify us if you would like to provide commentary and, if so, what areas of philosophy you feel comfortable and interested in providing commentary for. Commentaries should be no more than 2000 words (excluding notes) and presentable in 10 minutes.
Extended abstracts should concern any topics reasonably tied to the theme of artificial intelligence and technology, i.e., ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, aesthetics, and so on. Please submit abstracts to PSA@umanitoba.ca by 11:59 PM CST on October 17th, 2025. We will send out acceptance and rejection notices at the latest by October 31st, 2025.

Philosophy Student Association
The Student Philosophy Journal (SPJ) is a peer-reviewed academic journal that serves as the premier space to publish philosophical scholarship at Toronto Metropolitan University.
As such, the SPJ is excited to announce a call for submissions to the second edition of the journal which will be published this year.
The SPJ is confident that there are many talented and passionate philosophy students within your department and the editors at the SPJ are looking forward to reading their submissions.
The SPJ promotes serious and sustained academic engagement in philosophy and upholds the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Moreover, the SPJ aims to showcase the intellectual rigour and creativity of philosophy students by providing them with a platform to publish their works on a wide array of topics.
